Program Overview
The OSHA Excavation, Trenching, and Shoring Course for Competent and Qualified Persons is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and authority required to safely plan, supervise, and execute excavation and trenching operations in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P (Excavations).This course emphasizes the critical roles of the Competent Person and Qualified Person in identifying hazards, classifying soil, designing protective systems, and ensuring safe work practices during excavation activities.Participants will learn how to:

- Perform soil classification and testing
- Select and design protective systems (sloping, shoring, shielding)
- Conduct daily inspections and enforce corrective actions
- Prevent cave-ins, falls, and other excavation-related incidents
The training combines theory, case studies, and practical applications, ensuring participants can make real-time safety decisions on-site.
Objectives:
1. Understand OSHA Excavation Standards
- Interpret OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1926 Subpart P)
- Define excavation, trench, and protective systems
- Identify employer and employee responsibilities
2. Define Roles: Competent vs. Qualified Person
- Identify existing and predictable hazards
- Classify soil and inspect excavations daily
- Take immediate corrective actions
- Stop work when unsafe conditions exist

- Design protective systems (e.g., shoring, shielding)
